Taking cognisance of the violent protest witnessed at a few places in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh and some other parts of country against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019, Uttarakhand police have also declared alert in all districts.

Senior officials at Police Headquarters (PHQ) have stated that police officials concerned who have jurisdiction in areas with mixed population or border areas are being extra careful. They are also keeping in touch with all the people who have a say in their particular communities so as to make sure no communal violence is instigated.  Director General (Law and Order) Ashok Kumar said, “Till Sunday almost every demonstration in the state has been conducted peacefully.

The protest on Sunday even in Haridwar was conducted in non-violent way. In addition to that necessary orders regarding the communication at the areas with mixed population are already at place. The police are still on alert and will remain so until further orders.” It is also important to mention here that in order to make sure that police force remains intact during this crucial time period, Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arun Mohan Joshi has suspended the leaves of all police personnel. As per the information provided by the SSP office, taking the winter carnival and New Year celebration into consideration SSP Joshi has suspended all leaves until further orders.
