An ASI in Armed Police Delhi identified as Anil Dwivedi was arrested after a bullet accidentally went off from his firearm and injured a person during a marriage ceremony at a wedding point located on Devi Road in Kotdwar on Sunday night.
The injured Anil Bhardwaj, resident of lallpur, Kotdwar, was rushed to the Joint Hospital at Kotdwar and from there he was taken to a higher centre as he turned serious.
Police acted after Sarojini the mother of the injured lodged a complaint against the Anil Dwivedi who was arrested on Monday morning from Korllia in Kotdwar.
However, the firearm from which the bullet went off was yet to be traced, said police. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against Dwivedi under Section 307 of Indian Penal Code.
According to Kotwali in-charge inspector Uttam Singh Jimmiwal, ASI Anil Dwivedi has come Kotdwar to attend the marriage ceremony.
He further informed that Ravindra Singh Negi is the investigating officer of the case.
Sources say that the bullet went off from the firearm the police officer kept in his belt. The bullet hit Anil Bhardwaj as he was sitting behind the ASI.
