Delegation of Parents' Association meets Assembly Speaker over private schools

PNS
Continuing their protest against the alleged ‘loot of private school’ operators, members of the All Uttarakhand Parents’ Association met the Speaker of State Assembly, Govind Singh Kunjwal, at Vidhan Sabha on Friday. led by president of the association, Neeraj Singhal, the delegation handed over a memorandum to Kunjwal demanding action against the private schools which were openly flouting the provisions of Right to Education (RTE) and other rules.
The delegation informed the Speaker that many CBSE and ICSE Board affiliated schools of the State were not following the norms laid down in the universal Right to Education (RTE) Act and not giving admissions to poor students as envisioned in the Act. The members demanded that these schools should be forced to set-up a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) with proper representation of active parents, so that there was some control on their functioning.
The association also demanded that the schools should compulsorily be asked to recommend the books of National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) which were much cheaper and were of better in content and quality for the benefit of parents and students. The Speaker assured that he would look into the matter. The president of the Association Singhal said the parents were agitating against the hegemony of private schools for quite a long time but the Education department was doing nothing to address the issue.
