The civic body of the State capital which are responsible for improving sanitation and resolving all related issues appears to be incapable of giving up its lethargic attitude which has worsened the level of sanitation in Dehradun.
The Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM) company, working for the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to maintain the sanitation arrangement of the city appears to be working as per its own wishes. Several councilors and even locals have complained about the irregular visits of the company employees for garbage collection in their wards.
In this respect, BJP Councillor at MCD, Bhupendra Kathait maintained that the company has failed to manage the sanitation arrangement of the city. He stated that the company employees don’t even visit the wards on regular basis for collecting the garbage. Sometimes the garbage is not collected for weeks and remains scattered all over the roads, he said.
This lethargic attitude of the company is creating much inconvenience for the locals and also affecting the sanitation level of the city. Another councilor of Vijay Colony, Nikhil Kumar stated that the locals keep complaining about the irregular disposal of garbage but this seems to be of no avail. He stated that the DVWM vehicle has not visited his ward for a week now which is causing anger among the local residents.
Speaking on this issue, leader of Opposition at MCD, Ninu Sehgal stated that MCD aims to improve the sanitation arrangement of the town and the officials are also looking forward to work in coordination with DVWM in this respect.
As per Sehgal, MCD has also cleared the due amount of Rs 25 lakh to the company and would be giving the tipping fees amount in rotation from next month. He stated that MCD has also asked the company officials to repair the out of order vehicles at earliest. Around four vehicles were repaired on Wednesday out of 18 out of order vehicles of the company, he said.
He further informed that in a meeting held with the DVWM CEO Siddharth Jain and Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, Ashok Kumar, Jain said that he would be able to expedite the sanitation works in all the wards after all the out of order vehicles are repaired. He also stated that in one week he would try to regularise the door to door garbage collection works in all the wards.
