The Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will virtually unveil the foundation stones for two underpasses to be constructed at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) here on September 28.

The function will be held in the presence of the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat at the IMA at 3:30 PM. The IMA commandant, lieutenant general JS Negi met the chief minister regarding this at the CM residence here on Saturday.

The CM stated that the Central Government had approved a sum of Rs 45 crore for the construction of two underpasses at IMA.

One of these tunnels will be to link the two campuses of the academy divided by the main road and the other will be for reaching the academy.

Rawat pointed out that during the passing out parade at the IMA, both the State Government and the IMA are concerned about the security aspects.

It was due to this that the defence minister had been requested in the past to facilitate construction of the two underpasses to which he soon granted his approval.

The CM expressed his gratefulness to the defence minister for this. He further added that with the construction of these two underpasses, the problems faced by the general public in movement during the parades in the academy will also be resolved. Both the army and the citizens have been demanding a solution to these problems for a long time, he said.
