After debris repeatedly fell on the road at lambagad slide zone following heavy rain, the authorities halted the traffic to and from Badrinath on Wednesday. The travellers were made to halt at secure locations till change in the weather.
Personnel of the Border Roads Organisation and national highways were busy for most of the day trying to clear the road for traffic. However, due to the consistent rainfall, debris intermittently fell down on the road and blocked it to traffic. The intermittent sliding of debris also made the task of clearing the road more difficult for the departmental personnel.
From the morning on Wednesday, the Rishikesh Badrinath national highway was blocked on and off by debris at lambagad slide zone. Due to this the authorities stopped traffic to and from Badrinath. The sub divisional magistrate Yogendra Singh informed that due to debris falling at lambagad, the travelers coming from Badrinath were halted at Badrinath while those going towards Badrinath were made to halt at Govindghat.
He further informed that the pilgrims would be made to halt at secure locations during the period of the alert issued by the meteorological department.
