Owing to its good university results and merit positions, DBS (PG) College, Dehradun is a centre for academic excellence and considered one of the finest institutions for science in North India. This college has qualified academicians imparting quality education in different fields and has recorded 50 years of service to society.

The college principal OP Kulshrestha, who is about to complete his four year tenure, said that the college has a signature especially in science-education and research, rated B+ by NAAC, UGC.

The college has a track-record of producing world class scientists, managers, technocrats, bureaucrats and is a centre for research in specialised field, he added.

However this college also faces a crunch of teaching and non teaching staff with no recruitments in the past many years. As per approved seats, this college immediately needs at least 50 teaching staff and half of total sanctioned post of non-teaching staff.

He said, “The University Grants Commission declared DBS, “a college with potential for excellence (CPE)” with grant of Rs one crore. We offer academic and professional programmes at undergraduate, post-graduate and doctorate level in science and humanities and lay emphasis on excellence in teaching and quality education. The students are also encouraged to participate in socio-cultural activities, NCC, CDI, Rovers and Rangers, Red Cross Society and others.”

The college boasts of its initiative in the field of professional and regular education in distance mode with its on campus IGNOU Study Centre which started working in January 2011 and presently offers 16 Graduate/Master Degree, PG Diploma/Diploma and Certificate Programmes including MSW and Journalism.

It may be mentioned here that inspired by the ideals of great social reformer of nineteenth century, Dayanand Saraswati, the college was established in July 1961 in Dehradun by Dayanand Shiksha Sansthan, Kanpur. The college was started with few rooms and only 93 students. The enrolment of 93 students had increased to 1500 and whole of the building which exists today was built in an initial span of just 12 years.
