PNS

A day long seventh national conference on implications of management theories on literature, social science and cultural issues was held at Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya. The conference was organised by Faculty of management studies and had scholars from all over India participating and discussing the implications of Western and Eastern management theories applied in multiple disciplines.

Presiding over the conference as the chief guest the superintendent of police (Traffic) Manjunath TC said that the topic was very much relevant in today’s times and the conference had given a platform to academicians with inter-disciplinary interests capturing contemporary developments in business and management.

The guest of honour, Professor Ipshita Bansal, the registrar at Sonepat BPS women’s college said, “We have been using western theories of management but the need of the hour is to develop Indian theories which are rooted in Indian psyche.” Citing example of western theory of motivation which always hints for ‘what is my benefit’, she said that Indian psyche believes as stated by Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Geeta that one should focus on discharging duty without expecting and bothering for result. She said with this theory whole world view changes. The student faces identity crisis in such an atmosphere. There is dichotomy in what he reads and what he is asked to implement.

Similar views were expressed by Vivek Natarajan, assistant professor from Lamar University Texas who said the conference theme was very much topical. “We need more such endeavours in which western theories are not followed blindly but rather new innovative theories are developed in the Indian context.”

Former Acharya Ved Prakash Shastri of Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya drew inferences from Vedas to bring home the point. Suryakant Tyagi explained business models which needed to be reshaped. Vageesh Paliwal from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya discussed leadership theories how they needed a change. Professor Sunita Rani who teaches IAS officers in Mussoorie said that theories of management could not be isolated. Practise and theories must go hand in hand.

Professor V K Singh, the dean and head of faculty of management studies of Gurukul Kangri said the basic purpose behind holding the conference was to provide local participants to share their ideas and experiences with peers and gain insight into scope of changes in management theories long practiced till date.

The Gurukul Kangri dean, faculty of education, Pankaj Madan winded up the conference saying new finance policies like GST, demonetisation have pressed the need for modification on management theories in Indian context. India being the fourth largest economy has evolved  and day to day changes are coming in business models. India cannot run on old management theories, new need to be formed. The registrar Dinesh Bhatt and vice chancellor Surender Kumar of the host university also expressed their views on the occasion.
