To put more pressure on the college management for their demand of removal of college principal Devendra Bhasin, the president and general secretary of the DAV students’ union started a relay hunger strike from Thursday.
The students are demanding that the Principal should be removed from his post for his alleged role in giving admission to a student in MA sociology course against the high court order of strictly following merit in admissions and other discrepancies.
The general secretary of the DAV students’ union Sachin Tapliyal told The Pioneer that the condition of the college is very bad due to the indifferent attitude of the college administration and it’s the students who are suffering the most. He said a thorough probe would reveal large scale siphoning of the funds of the college and Principal being head of the institution is directly responsible for the mess the college is in.
He threatened that if no action would be taken by the authorities in next two days than the students would be forced to start a fast unto death in the college campus.
Thapliyal said that there are 128 lecturers in the college but only 20-30 teachers are present in the college which is a point of investigation as State Government spends a large amount of money on salaries of these teachers who do not teach.
On Wednesday a delegation of student leaders had met the Principal Secretary S Ramaswamy on the issue. The accusation of the students are however refuted by the Principal and the staff members.
