Sudha Devrani who is now holding the position of the chairperson of the district child welfare committee (CWC) said that she has been doing her best to stop crimes against the children since the day she had assumed the charge.

Notably, her tenure is completing in one and a half month. Asked about the spike in crime against the children in the State, she said that one of the main reasons behind it is the communication gap between the parents and the children.

Talking to The Pioneer on Wednesday, Devrani said, “I have been here for a short time. However, I am convinced that the major cause behind the crime against the children is the lack of communication between the parents and the children. Today, the kids are so much obsessed with the media platforms that they cease to feel the attachment to their families as they earlier did.

A child needs more guidance now because of the facilities he or she is enjoying. It is very important that the parents guide their children to grow into better human beings, help them imbibe good moral values and nourish them with good thoughts. This way, the children can also open up to their parents about problems they might be facing”

She further said, “I think that the education system needs to evolve a bit more. When a child is growing, he/she spends most of the time in his/her school. It is very important that the education system becomes stronger so that the students can be made aware of what is good and what is bad. If this happens, a child would be made well aware of molestation and he or she would have knowledge and the like to tackle things appropriately.”

Dwelling on her priorities, she said, “One of my priorities has been to be more active in the field of child labourers. This has been a social evil that has ruined the future of many children. Minimising such cases would remain one of my major focus  during the rest of my tenure. The second is helping the victims more effectively."
