The doctors of the Max Super Specialty Hospital here have claimed to perform customised knee replacement surgery on a 65-year-old woman. The hospital authorities claim that in this novel technique a detailed 3-D model of the knee is created before the surgery based on the anatomy of the patient’s knee.
The customised instruments are designed through the model, which are then used for fitting in the knee implant. The Head of department of Orthopaedics at Max Hospital Dr Ashish Mittal said recently a retired Professor Usha Jain underwent customised knee replacement in the hospital after she was detected with advanced degenerative joint disease. After the operation, the patient is doing her routine activities.
“With sedentary lifestyle setting in, more and more young people are coming with extreme joint pains or worn out joints which often require joint replacements. Obesity is the prime cause for developing and progression of arthritis. With the new technology the surgery for the knee replacement has become minimally invasive with lots of benefits, as the surgery is minimally invasive, the post operative recovery is fast as compared to the traditional ones,” Dr Mittal said.
Sharing her experience Usha Jain said the surgery was totally painless and no blood was required. She thanked Dr Mittal and senior consultant Dr Hemanshu Kochhar for treating her.
