Tourists and pilgrims may now also have an opportunity to purchase Uttaranchal Tea as memory of their pilgrimage during the Char Dham Yatra as the Uttarakhand Tea Development Board (UTDB), Almora, has decided to make available the homegrown tea on the famous Char Dham pilgrimage route.

“We have decided to identify certain points on the Char Dham pilgrimage route to put our indigenously grown tea, Uttaranchal Tea, on display for sale so that tourists may easily purchase it to make their journey memorable,” said Almora District Magistrate Akshat Gupta who is also the director of UTDB, Almora.

To attract the attention of the tourists, Uttaranchal Tea will be publicised in a big way on this Char Dham pilgrimage route. “More so, in a bid to popularise our homegrown product, we have also decided to give special concessions to the traders who wish to deal in Uttaranchal Tea so that the traders could also be benefited from it and sale of the said tea could also be increased,” he added.

The UTDB has set a target of preparing about 35,000 kg of Uttaranhcal Tea for the year 2013-2014. And the tea will be sold at the local markets and the auction markets, the officials concerned added. We are also trying to dispose off the Uttaranchal Tea at the auction market in Kolkata, the UTDB director said, stressing on the need to ensure better and attractive packaging of the tea so that it could be sold easily at the auction market in Kolkata.

“We are also planning to promote tea tourism in the State by way of highlighting our tea gardens. If the tourists visit the tea gardens, they will also be able to know about our tea in detail,” Gupta further said.
