Cops waiting for CCTV footage to identify killer in teacher's murder case

PNS

Two days after a teacher was shot dead by unidentified assailants, the police are hoping that the footage from a closed circuit television camera installed about 100 metres away from the site of the murder might provide some clues to solve the case. A police team was sent to Patna in search of some accused on Monday. The post-mortem examination has revealed that a gunshot of 315 bore was fired from a close range, causing his instant death.

On late Saturday evening, the teacher Rajesh Kumar was shot dead by some unidentified persons near Chauhan market in Friends Colony of Rawli Mehdood. The deceased teacher was a resident of Shivalik Nagar. Property dispute is supposed to be behind the murder, police said following preliminary investigation.  The deceased is survived by his father, wife Nisha, a daughter Unnati and a son Tanishq. It is learnt from police that his father owned land in Patna which was sold for Rs 50 lakh. The teacher was to visit Patna on February 23 in connection with the land agreement. “We are probing whether the sale of land has anything to do with the murder. Prima facie, it seems to be so,” said a police officer investigating the case.

It is also learnt that the family had given the land to a relative for farming about four years ago.

However, after about two years, the relative refused to return the land to the owner, resulting in the dispute.  The dispute appeared to have been resolved a few months ago, according to the deceased’s family sources. It is thus a mystery why the son of the landowner was done away with a few days before the land agreement was to be signed, said police.

SIIDCUl police station in-charge Kamal Mohan Bhandari said, “The footage of the closed circuit camera has been reviewed, but not much is visible. We are interrogating the residents of the colony. We hope the culprits would be traced soon.”

Another police officer said that the nephew of the landowner is reportedly missing from their village in Patna following the murder which has raised suspicion of the relatives being connected to the murder of the teacher.
