PNS

In connection with the murder of a 23- year- old person and injury of four persons of the same family in Balawala area by around five unidentified criminals in armed burglary on Wednesday morning, police are still gropping in the dark about the identity of the offenders. However, battered by criticism from various quarters for their inefficiency to curb crimes, police seem to have made it a prestige issue for themselves.

However, vexed by public anger and blockage of national highway at Harrawala on Thursday over rising crime graphs and police’s failure to solve such cases in the state capital for the last few months, Uttarakhand Chief Minster Harish Rawat has fixed a deadline to the State DGP to solve the case. the deadline would be over on Saturday.

DGP BS Sidhu was found busy in closeting with senior police officers on Friday. He gave the police officers necessary instructions to crack the case promptly. State Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena presided over a meet with DIG Garhwal Range Amit Sinha, SSP Ajay Rautela and other police offices at SSP office on Thursday night and directed officers to intensify patrolling in the area and launch verification drives. Police station in-charge will be made responsible if armed burglary, loot and other crime cases are reported in their jurisdictions, he warned.

SSP Rautela said that police are working on several angles to solve the armed burglary case that had occurred in Balawala on Wednesday morning. Several teams have been formed and they have been deployed at various places, including districts of western Uttar Pradesh. Police are reviewing the armed burglary cases that had occurred in the past and those having criminal records are being grilled. Police are directed to get into touch with the Special Operation Group personnel from western UP districts who deal with burglary cases there to solve the case.
