Cops asked to play Holi responsibly this time by DIG

Dehradun police which keeps on indulging in Holi Hurdang as part of Holi revelry a day after the Holi festival every year, would not do the same this year. Dehradun DIG/SSP Pushpak Jyoti said that all are equal before the law and no one, no matter who he is, will be allowed to indulge in Holi Hurdang. Everyone should exercise restraint while celebrating Holi. They should not cause others inconveniences while celebrating the festival, he added.

SSP said that like other Doon residents, police personnel too should play Holi responsibly. They have been directed to ensure that no one is inconvenienced in the process. He further said that cops if found consuming liquor in the police station premises or blocking roads leading to public inconvenience or smearing colours or gulals on passers- by forcefully will be punished.

The department may conduct probes in these cases to fix responsibility, he warned. Notably, the city remained witness over the previous years to police assembling at places within the campus and smearing one another with colours or gulal.

They are found dancing in inebriated state to the beat of drums and songs played on the music system in the campus. However, what becomes obnoxious is the fact that they tear shirts of their colleagues while they dance. Even, teasing occurs occasionally while the law-enforcers are engaged in drinking the revelry to their last dregs, sources said.
