Congress is a sinking ship: Rawat

RADHIKA NAGRATH

The State Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has said that Congress is a sinking ship and is losing in all elections in the States. “In the recently held local body elections in Uttar Pradesh, it has faced drastic defeat and now in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, it is bound to lose badly. Meanwhile, the distraught Congress men are praying in temples and even the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is posing to be soaked in Hinduism,” he said.

The spurt in temple visits by the Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat elections has stirred up the Bharatiya Janata Party to respond. The BJP had reached its crescendo with the help of Hindutava and now the Congress appears to be playing at least the ‘soft Hindutva’. Having been away from the political power in Gujarat for the past two decades, the Congress has jumped in with fresh force in election campaigning. The BJP party leaders are figuring out what has changed Rahul’s tone of address in public rallies.

Answering to the question posed by media persons on Congress ascertaining Rahul Gandhi’s wearing of sacred thread, Trivendra Singh Rawat said, “A donkey will remain a donkey even if bathed a hundred times. It cannot become a horse.

Congress is totally leaderless. Baffled Congress leaders are visiting temples but even from God’s shrine, they will get defeat.”

He further said that during Harish Rawat’s term as chief minister, Uttarakhand police had failed in nabbing the accused who had killed the jailer outside Roorkee jail and later the Punjab police had caught them. Under the BJP State government, the police nab the accused in two hours, he averred.

The State Minister for higher education Dhan Singh Rawat opined that it is better late than never that Rahul Gandhi has come on the right track.

Taking a dig at the Congress vice president wearing the ‘janeu’ (sacred thread), the minister said that “in our mountain State every child has to undergo Janeu Sanskar (sacred thread ceremony)”. He opined that in the Indian tradition, it is common for one to wear a sacred thread but the Congress probably needed such a certification to declare. It is not a thing to be showcased, he added.
