Congress cries foul as social distancing flouted at BJP office

PNS

Social distancing norms were flouted during the ceremony to include the Roorkee Mayor Gaurav Goel into the BJP on Sunday. Goyal was re-inducted into BJP along with many of his supporters in presence of a galaxy of BJP leaders at the state office of the party on the day.

The chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, state president of the party Bansidhar Bhagat, state minister Dhan Singh Rawat and other leaders were present during the ceremony. The BJP workers and supporters of Roorkee started a joyous celebration after the CM and Bhagat left the dais.

The workers danced to the beats of drums and were seen hugging each other. The state BJP president Bhagat evaded the questions posed by the media on the flouting of the social distancing norms during the ceremony. Meanwhile the opposition Congress party has attacked the BJP government for being selective in approach for enforcing the social distancing norms.

It is pertinent to mention here that the administration had registered cases against Congress leaders and workers including former Chief Minister (CM) and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Pritam Singh for not following social distancing norms during the Congress party’s protest against rising fuel prices.

In a statement Harish Rawat said that the video footage of the ceremony held at the BJP office on Sunday clearly shows that social distancing norms were not followed.

He added that the CM and state president of BJP were present in the ceremony. On a sarcastic note Rawat said that cases were slapped on him and others when he rode a bullock cart to register protest against rising fuel prices but no one is now talking about the ceremony held at the BJP office.

Launching an attack on the BJP Government, the Vice President of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana said that cases should be registered against BJP leaders for not following the norms of social distancing during the ceremony held at the BJP office on Sunday.

He said two sets of rules should not be used for similar acts. Dhasmana claimed that during the whole of the lockdown phase, the Congress party workers observed the lockdown rules but when during the unlock period they held protests while observing social distancing norms, cases were registered on them.

Cases were slapped on former CM Harish Rawat, PCC President Pritam Singh and other Congress leaders. Dhasmana said that if cases are not registered on the BJP leaders then the Congress party would knock the door of Governor against the discrimination of the state administration.
