The ruling Congress and the Opposition BJP in the State being hand in glove, several cases lodged under Sections 307 and 420 of IPC against leaders of both the parties in the various police stations, have been withdrawn by the State Government, said SP district president Furkan Ahmed Qureshi while interacting with media persons on Monday.
Cases against Cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat and State BJP president Tirath Singh Rawat could be cited as instances, he said, adding that the grim state of things has come to the fore thanks to RTI disclosures. “This exemplifies the fact how ruling and the opposition parties tend to bury the hatchet when it comes to withdrawing the cases lodged against the leaders of the both the camps. Such deals are dangerous precedents as far as law and order of the State is concerned,” he said.
Quizzed over the fact of such a practice of the withdrawal of recorded cases against the ruling party Satraps being normal in UP under SP regime, he said such a thing happening anywhere is condemnable.
Qureshi said he had sought information through RTI from the State Government on the matter. The political leaders against whom the registered cases have been withdrawn by the State Government include a senior Cabinet minister from PDF, Mantri Prasad Naithani, former Cabinet minister Tilak Raj Behar, Raipur MlA and parliamentary secretary Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’, BJP MlA Prem Chandra Aggarwal and many others, he informed
Selective approach of the Government is resulting in the alarming spurt in crime cases across the State. “Things would go from bad to worse if the trend is not arrested,” he said, adding that his party would not sit idle on the matter.
“Our demand includes such cases being re-lodged and the accused if proven guilty being brought to justice,” the SP leader said. He also said that the State Government must withdraw the increased land registry fees and hike in petrol price in the interests of the common people.
