In connection with the stone pelting incident resulting in some police men being injured during a Congress rally for the Vidhan Sabha which was in session in 2009, six Congress leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta, three State Cabinet Ministers — Yashpal Arya, Dinesh Aggarwal and Pritam Singh — appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Dehradun on Friday. They were later granted bail.
Notably, the Congress leaders led by Harak Singh Rawat had taken out a rally headed for the Assembly when BJP was in power in 2009. After the protesters had been stopped at the barricade erected at Rispana, they tried to break it to advance to the Assembly. later they had resorted to stone pelting that resulted in several cops on duty sustaining injuries. Following this, then police station officer Chandan Singh had registered a complaint on the basis of which a case under appropriate sections of IPC had been registered against 25 Congress leaders, including Harak Singh Rawat, Pritam Singh, Yashpal Arya, Vivek Khanduri, Surya Kant Dhasmana, Pritam Singh Chauhan, Pradeep Tamta, Hira Singh Bisht, Dinesh Aggarwal, Kishor Upadhyay, Subodh Uniyal, Kunwar Parnav Singh Champion, lal Chand, Sangram Singh, Mahesh Sharma, Vinod Rawat, Vijay Chauhan and Manish Nagpal, in Nehru Colony police station.
Advocates Raghuveer Singh Kathait and Satendra Bhandari said that bail pleas had been accepted and the leaders had been released on bail. It should be mentioned here that the Congress-led State Government had appealed to the court to dismiss the case in January 2014. However, the court had refused, saying that such dismissal would send a wrong message to the common people.
