The Congress in Uttarakhand has suffered a loss with its State vice-president Ram Sharan Nautiyal resigning from the party complaining about party workers being ignored and humiliated.
In his resignation letter addressed to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Nautiyal states that he had been in the Congress for about 30 years and participated in various important activities of the party and the Uttarakhand statehood movement.
“However, the situation changed after State formation in 2000 and the State was left in the care of a few people who took undue benefit of their positions and treated party workers in a dictatorial manner,” he states while adding that the party high command was misinformed and in some past cases party tickets to contest elections were given to such people who were not party members even on the day of filing their nomination. He further stated that the party workers had faced injustice and suffered humiliation.
According to Nautiyal, “Today the party worker is confused about whether to remain loyal to 10 Janpath or to some local political leaders. It has become difficult to even speak of 10 Janpath in front of some senior leaders. I myself have been facing neglect for some years and am finding myself uneasy in the party and since some party leaders consider me to be a burden I am resigning from the post of Uttarakhand Congress Committee vice president and from my primary membership of the party with immediate effect.”
