Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, the BJP's candidate from the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar lok Sabha seat, proved his words only right when about two months or soon after his nomination from this seat ,Koshiyari claimed that he would win this seat with record votes as he had studied the ground realities.
Full of confidence Koshiyari went on saying he had been given ticket by the party on the recommendations of the party activists and keeping in view the sentiments of the people of this constituency. So he seemed to have already done necessary homework, feeling the pulse of nerves of the voters of this lok Sabha seat and registered a historic win for himself and his party.
Otherwise, to dislodge the Congress Party in its pocket borough Nainital- Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary constituency and that too with a record margin of about 283792 votes by Koshiyari , has always been an uphill task for its opponents i.e. mainly the BJP with caste based politics playing a crucial role here.
This time challenge had already begun for the BJP in this seat with party candidate Bachi Singh Rawat, openly airing his disappointment over ignoring his candidature from this seat. But the interesting fact is that Koshiyari talked development in this heavily polarised society of the Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary constituency, maintaining that the issue of caste based politics has become irrelevant today.
It is worth mention here that with sizeable presence of muslim voters in certain assembly segments of this Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar parliamentary constituency including Haldwani, Rudrapur, Kashipur, Bazpur to name a few, the Congress Party has been able to better utilisie the caste based politics in this seat, occupying this lok Sabha seat for maximum period since 1951. However, the BJP has been able to register its victory in this seat on only on two occasions in 1991 and 1998 and the Janta Party in 1977.
In the meanwhile, the BJP activists here started celebrating the victory of the party in this lok Sabha seat as soon as election results began to show trends in Koshiyari's favour. The party activists led senior leaders Bachi Singh Rawat, Puran Chand Sharma, Banshidhar Bhagat, Deepak Mehara, cracked firecracker and distributed sweets to mark the occasion.
Among others senior party activists Devendra Dhaila, Uttam Dutta, Khilendra Chaudhary, Hukuk Singh Kunwar to name a few were also present on this occasion.
