Commuters ignoring traffic regulations stuck in jams during BJP rally

Despite the directions recently issued by Assistant Inspector General (traffic headquarters) Kewal Khurana to prevent traffic congestion in Dehradun, the usual violations of traffic regulations during the rally taken out by the Bharatiya Janata Party caused major inconvenience for the public on Tuesday.

The rally which began in the core of the city from the Gandhi Park and passed through the busy Clock Tower, Paltan Bazaar, Gandhi Road and Dharshanlal Chowk areas of the city caused major traffic jams on the roads which already suffer from traffic congestion on regular days.

Some among the citizens stuck in the traffic jam could be heard questioning the politicians’ move contradicting the police directions issued to prevent traffic congestion and public inconvenience.

Members of the public opined that directions issued by the police like proscribing the Clock Tower area for rallies could prevent major public inconvenience but such directions and traffic regulations have to be implemented strictly by the authorities if politicians do not heed such measures meant in public interest.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi sets examples of work efficiency, discipline and respect for the law while discouraging ‘VIP’ culture, but here the leaders of the ruling party create public inconvenience by going against directions of the police like the ban on rallies in the Clock Tower area,” said an irate vehicle user stuck in the traffic near the Clock Tower.
