In order to strengthen community policing, a Community liaisoning Group comprising local residents and policemen has been constituted in Haldwani Kotwali Police

station area as a pilot project. A Community Police Officer (CPO) has also been appointed to whom the Community liaisoning Group members would report about local activities periodically. CPO would also monitor the beat constables’ functioning from time to time, said Nainital SSP Vimmi Sachdeva Raman on Thursday. This will help in checking crimes, violence against women and improve quality of investigations in the district, she added.

She said that well-known local residents who are interested in cooperating with the police regarding local activities have been included in Community liaisoning Group and so far seven ClGs have been constituted in various areas of Haldwani.  Fifteen persons have secured ClG membership and they have been issued identity card by the police department.

Some police officers have been appointed as Community Police officer and they have been directed to be in touch with the ClG members and local beat constables apart from informing the police officers concerned if incidents related to immoral activities, domestic violence, robbery, chain snatching, burglaries, murder and other crimes are reported in their assigned area.

The ClG members have been directed to report directly on toll free number 1090 or to Community Police Officer if eve teasing, domestic violence and other crimes are noticed. Such ClGs will also be constituted in other parts of the district, she added. She further said that the object of constituting ClG is to involve the community in dealing with cases of violence against women, crimes like loot, burglary, chain snatching, theft, human trafficking and other illegal activities in the locality. With the involvement of ClG members, the quality of investigation on registered crime cases is also expected to improve in the district, she added.
