Committees to be made for regularisation of slum settlements

PNS

Committees will be formed under district magistrates to facilitate regularisation of slum settlements across the State. This decision was taken at a meeting on slums’ regularisation chaired by the chief secretary Shatrughna Singh here on Monday.

All the district magistrates will submit a report to the State administration on aspects including land ownership, possibility of notifying the slum, susceptibility of slum to disasters like floods among other issues.

Various aspects related to regularisation of the slums and scope for awarding land ownership rights were discussed in detail at the meeting. It was pointed out that legal consultation is necessary before the regularisation. The nazul policy will be observed for Government land. It was stated in the meeting that according to survey, there are 582 identified slum settlements in areas under the purview of 63 urban local bodies.

Of these, 278 slums are notified while 242 are non-notified. It will be recalled that State Slum Settlement Development Committee (SSSDC) chairman and Rajpur Road MlA Rajkumar had in the previous year submitted a survey report on slums to the state administration.

The recommendations in the report will be examined and procedure will be followed to regularise the slums.
