A committee will be formed under the Agriculture Minister for making the land consolidation process more practical and effective according to the scenario in Uttarakhand. This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat for reviewing the works of the Revenue Department here on Thursday.

Expressing dissatisfaction at the slow pace of land consolidation in the plain districts of the State, Rawat directed the Revenue Secretary to immediately conduct a review of this aspect. He also pointed at the need for raising public awareness in the mountainous regions regarding the benefits of land consolidation. He directed officials concerned to start preparatory process in two mountainous blocks as a model.

It was stated in the meeting that 18 services of the revenue department were not under the right to service law at present. The Chief Minister directed that the stamp vendor license and deed-writer license should be brought under the purview of right to service. Expressing concern at more than 35,000 revenue cases pending at the district level, Rawat directed the special courts be organised to expedite the resolution of these cases. If needed some sub divisional magistrates/additional district magistrates should be deputed specifically for the hearing of such judicial cases at the district level, he said.

He directed revenue department officers to accord special care to land-conversion cases related to farmers. Under no circumstances should the farmers fall prey to any conspiracy, he stressed. Regarding augmentation of the revenue department’s capacity, the CM said that till regularised appointments to posts of Nayab Tehsildar and Tehsildar, the retired and healthy Tehsildars and Nayab Tehsildars should be kept on contract basis. At present, 35 Tehsildars are appointed in 110 Tehsils and against 142 posts of Nayab Tehsildar, 90 are appointed.
