PNS

The State Government seems to be under pressure in the wake of the continuous agitation by students of various groups following the High Court ruling on admissions. This resulted in the Government officers asking the university officers to approve seats for admissions to  various bachelor degree courses during morning and evening classes, using the infrastructure that exists in the Government degree colleges and Government -aided degree colleges in the State to the optimum level.

Increase in seats for admissions during morning classes and introducing evening classes in various Government degree colleges would help the State Government accommodate maximum number of students who wish to complete their higher education in the State.

If sources are to be believed, around 3,870 seats will be allocated by Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University to the DAV (PG) College for evening classes. Kumaon University may allocate seats on various bachelor degree courses to the colleges for morning classes and evening classes, using its infrastructure to the hilt.

A higher education officer said there are around 95 Government degree colleges and Government- aided degree colleges in the State and the State Government has issued an instruction to the officials of State universities for optimally using the existing infrastructure in the colleges by allocating seats on admissions following an inspection by a team constituted at university level by August 25.

“Increase in seats for admissions during morning classes and introducing evening classes in the Government colleges would help the Government accommodate maximum number of students who wish to complete their higher education in the State,” he added.

Motiram Baburam Government Post Graduate(MBGPG) College, Haldwani, Government PG college, Kashipur, Government GP College, Rudrapur, Government PG college, Pithoragarh, Government PG College, Khatima, Government PG College, Ranikhet, Government PG College, Ramnagar, Government GP College Dwarahat and ten other colleges in Kumaon division are where the Government has planned to increase seats for admissions in morning classes and allocating seats for evening classes based on the  available infrastructure in the colleges.

In Garhwal division, SGRR (PG) College administration has agreed to start evening classes from this academic session and after inspection by the panel, SDSUU will allocate seats on admissions to this college for evening classes. MKP (PG) College and DBS (PG) College will also allocate seats for evening classes. University officials will inspect DBS (PG) College on Sunday for allocating seats in the evening classes based on available infrastructure.

DAV (PG) College Principal Devendra Bhasin said a nine — member team of SDSUU had inspected the college on Friday. The members inspected various departments, library, science laboratory and other records. They also met the principal and teaching staff members. Admissions in the college will begin after university approves seats for admissions in various bachelor degree courses.

At another remove, leaders of various students’ groups of DAV (PG) College under the banner of College Bachao  Sangharsh Samiti, carried out a candle march from Gandhi Park to Clock Tower on Saturday, protesting against the State Government having  failed to advocate strongly  during the hearing  in Uttarakhand High Court on its merit-based admission ruling. The students leaders have decided to forcibly shut down all the Government and private degree colleges on Monday in support of their long-pending demands, it is learnt.
