Taking cognisance of the report published in Wednesday’s edition of The Pioneer on the people facing an ordeal due  to traffic jams in the city roads on Tuesday,  Chief Minister Harish Rawat convened a meeting with IG Garhwal, Dehradun DM and SSP on Wednesday and instructed them to take all possible measures to free the roads from the problem of recurring  traffic snarls. However, the ordeal on the  road continued on Wednesday too with the people being forced to put up with jams at an important point like  Clock Tower and some other places.

CM instructed the officials concerned to improve things on the roads by taking the district administration, PWD, traffic police and RTO on board.

He instructed the secretary Shailesh Bagoli to bring 100 trained home guards in the traffic police to be deployed on the roads to regulate the traffic. He stressed on developing a dedicated work force fully trained in easing things on the roads, adding that the improvements to be effected must be visible on the ground.

CM said that the  pedestrians’ rights on the roads must be respected  while laying emphasis on the security of  the elderly people taking morning or evening walks.   He also asked them to get the potholed or damaged roads repaired at the earliest.  He instructed the secretary urban development to ensure coordination among the departments  concerned to better things on the city roads.

CM also reviewed the progress reports of the  under-construction bridges at ISBT and Ballupur in view of them missing deadlines  and instructed all concerned to complete the constructions on a priority basis.

The meeting was attended among  others  by Garhwal IG Sanjay Gunjyal, Dehradun DM Ravinath Raman, SSP Sadanand Date and SP traffic.
