Former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has embarrassed the incumbent Chief Minister Harish Rawat while the House was paying tribute to two departed leaders — former Cabinet Minister Surendra Rakesh and Rajya Sabha MP Manorma Dobriyal Sharma in the Vidhan Sabha on Thursday. In his condolence, the CM Rawat said that Cabinet Minister Rakesh had had an indomitable spirit and the State Government did announce to open a medical college in Bhagwanpur due to his untiring zeal on the matter.
Bahuguna then pitched in saying that when he was the CM people used to seek financial help form Chief Minister Discretionary Fund (CMDF) to fight cancer or kidney ailment requiring dialysis. The incumbent CM must be receiving such appeals from the distressed. Instead of going for such rhetorical tribute, we should focus on dedicating the upcoming Bhagwanpur Medical College to the treatment of cancer and kidney ailments through dialysis. This would be the real tribute to the deceased Cabinet Minister Rakesh who died of cancer despite being treated in New York, Singapore, Delhi and Noida.
