CM Health Insurance Scheme moving at 'snail's pace'

Rajendra S Markuna

Despite the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) being launched with much fanfare in Uttarakhand, just 17,924 health cards have so far been prepared while the number of families identified for the scheme stands at 34,761 in Champawat district.

Stressing the need to expedite health card preparation process, the district administration, Champawat has said that earlier the BPl category  families used to avail Rs30,000 health cover under the old National Health Insurance Scheme. But under CMHIS, all APl and BPl category families, except the Government servants, pensioners and taxpayers, are entitled to get health insurance benefits up to Rs50,000.

According to the officials concerned of the Champawat district administration, people may avail CMHIS at three health centres in Champawat district presently.

At the same time, since health facilities are not available for curing some of the diseases in Champawat, the patients may get treatment of such diseases in the Government-run hospitals in other districts and listed private hospitals under CMHIS, further said the officials of the Champawat district administration.

The State Government provides Rs50,000 financial assistance for 13,450 diseases under Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme.
