CM for evaluation system in Classes V, VIII to raise quality of education

PNS

In order to enhance performance of school students, an evaluation system should be developed for students of classes V and VIII without violating the Right to Education Act, said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

He said that children enrolled in public schools as part of 25 per cent RTE Act quota are suffering from inferiority complex. Being unable to adapt to the education culture, such students could not compete with other students. Rawat told education department officers to draft a plan for facilitating residential school education for such children.

Director General of school education Senthil Pandiyan said that statistics on performance of students at national level revealed that student performance level had dropped in schools due to the alteration of the examination process followed in the past.

As students are weak in their basics, the teachers are finding it difficult to teach them in class IX in preparation for class X board examination. Teachers not comprehending academic weakness of their students might be perpetuating the same.  A child-friendly evaluation system is slated to be introduced for Government school students without violating the RTE Act.
