Terming the urban local body elections a festival of democracy, the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has appealed to the people of the State to exercise their franchise on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party state president Ajay Bhatt also appealed to the public to exercise their franchise on Sunday. He requested them to vote in favour of the BJP candidates.

Expressing his views on the eve of polling for the urban local body elections, the Chief Minister said that the local bodies are a strong foundation of democracy. The strength of the local bodies also prepares a strong foundation for the parliamentary democracy of the nation. The local bodies have an important role in the democratic system, he said. By voting independently and without bias, the citizens can contribute their bit towards strengthening democracy. It is the collective responsibility of all to ensure participation in these elections, he said.

Appealing the public to elect BJP representatives, he said that in the local body elections, the BJP has presented itself to the public with the isues of corruption-free, planned and consistent development. In the one and half years of its term so far, the BJP State Government has worked with honesty for the progress of the State.

A policy of zero tolerance for corruption has been implemented effectively but still a lot more needs to be done. Rawat said that people in the urban areas of the State have to vote considering the development of their areas. With the BJP Governments at Centre and State levels, BJP boards in the local bodies will expedite development works and help in developing the cities as desired. “I believe that like the public gave its historic mandate to us in the 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections, the people will favour BJP candidates in the local body polls. I humbly appeal all the definitely vote and to elect BJP candidates,” said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister himself is slated to cast his vote at the polling centre in DAV public school, Defence Colony at 10 AM on Sunday.

Meanwhile, interacting informally with media persons at the party State office here on Saturday, the BJP state president Ajay Bhatt said that voting is a very important aspect of democracy as it enables the people to elect their representatives.

Exhorting the voters to exercise their franchise, he also requested them to favour the BJP candidates to enable them to achieve a resounding victory.

He said that the Congress has felt its impending defeat in the local body elections and is hence playing the politics of obstruction.

That is why, the Congress is spending force on making wrong complaints to the election commission based on baseless allegations.

However, the people know the reality of the Congress, he said. Bhatt further said that the BJP pursues developmental politics whereas the Congress places its faith in politics aimed at obstructing development. The public is with development which is what the BJP stands for, he added.
