After the chaos witnessed a day earlier, things settled down on Thursday at the Government Doon Medical College. The first batch of MBBS student of the newly setup college had their first class on the day. The Principal of the college, Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta took a

session with the students in which he explained curriculum of their studies. He also elaborated on qualities of a good doctor. An introductory session was held in which the faculty members were introduced with the students.

later talking to The Pioneer, Dr Gupta said that college has made all necessary preparation for the smooth functioning of academic and other activities. He informed that students are taught subjects of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry in I year MBBS course. “We have four senior faculty members each for Anatomy and Physiology while three teachers are there for Biochemistry. The library of the college has more than 3000 books and 20 medical journals. The cadavers necessary for anatomy classes are also available,’’ Dr Gupta said.

The students have taken occupation in their respective rooms. Many parents were visible in the hostels, arduously arranging things for their wards. Some of the electrical and masonry works were still going on the hostel building but the basic necessities like beds, fans, water, electricity were arranged by the harried college authorities.

On Wednesday some of the parents had objected to lack of facilities in the hostel rooms after which the Uttar Pradesh Nirman Nigam limited and college administration swung into action. “Things have changed for better in less than 24 hours. The college authorities should have shown this swiftness earlier,’’ said one of a parents looking relieved.  The college has hired a local vendor to supply the breakfast, lunch and dinner for the students till the process of mess tender is complete. The earlier tender process for mess was cancelled as only one party showed interest in the work. A new tender is released now.
