Civic works, graft to dominate MCD meeting today

PNS

The issues of civic works and alleged anomalies in the spending of funds in municipal works are expected to dominate the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun board meeting slated for Thursday.

Councillors of the BJP too are expected to raise questions on various issues in the board meeting. The MCD has been planning to develop the Gandhi Park but due to the State administration keeping the budget approval pending, the corporation is planning to get the budget for this task approved by the District Planning Committee which is slated to meet on January 16.

The budget proposal is also slated to be presented in the MCD board meeting for approval of the board. The development of Gandhi Park is estimated to cost about Rs1 crore.  The Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli had also asked the councillors to prepare proposals worth Rs10 lakh each for development work to be submitted for approval to the DPC but some BJP councillors are not in favour of this as they state that DPC is meant to facilitating development in the entire district and not only in the municipal area in Dehradun.

Apart from this, the councillors are also expected to raise various other issues in the board meeting including anomalies in street lights and poles, two vehicles hired for the Mayor and the Mukhya Nagar Adhikari, the road sweeping machine costing Rs90 lakh and alleged anomalies in the spending of funds under the 13th Finance Commission.
