Accusing the transport department and police of not complying with the orders of Supreme Court and Uttarakhand High Court, the association of city bus operators in Dehradun has sent a letter to the divisional transport officer of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) asking for a terminal to surrender their buses.

According to the president of Dehradun Mahanagar City Bus Seva Mahasangh, Vijay Vardhan Dandriyal, the association has asked the divisional transport officer to provide the city bus operators a terminal as per the Motor Vehicle Act.

"Since the transport department is not taking any steps to stop the illegalities in the operation of autorickshaws, Vikrams and electric rickshaws which is causing huge loss to us, we have decided to surrender our buses along with our permits on July 23.

Since it is the responsibility of RTO to provide us parking space for our city buses as per the rules, we have asked them to give us a terminal or any space to surrender about 270 buses," stated Dandriyal.

According to him, the association had complained to the department multiple times and the Supreme Court and Uttarakhand High Court also do not approve such operation of the vehicles under contract carriage permit but despite all this, nothing is being done by the authorities to stop their illicit operations in Dehradun.

"We will resume the operation of buses only when the department takes concrete action against this illegal operation of three-wheelers and if the authorities fail to do so, we will be bound to approach the High Court for justice and livelihood of more than two thousand families," said Dandriyal.
