Chemists selling drugs to students: BJYM

PNS

Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) alleged that some medicine shops in the city are selling drugs to the students residing in the hostels in their vicinity. Venting anger against the drug menace spreading its tentacles across Dehradun with the suppliers targeting the students and labourers of industries, scores of BJYM members staged a protest at SSP office and submitted a memorandum to police on Wednesday.

Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date said that steps are being taken to check drug peddling. Drives are being launched from time to time against the same.  He assured the BJYM members that stringent action would be taken against the drug peddlers.

The members of BJYM led by its leader and national finance committee member Amit Kapoor reached SSP office and shouted slogans against the administration for failing to check the fast expanding drug menace. Kapoor said that this was bad in view of Dehradun having made its identity as hub of education in the country.

“Students of various states are coming here for education. Drug peddlers are targeting the students. They have entered the state from the neighbouring ones. We have definite information that there are many chemist shops located at places like Premnagar, Rajpur Road, Clement Town and other places which are selling drugs to the students living in hostels. This must be stopped at any cost,” he said.
