A mentally challenged boy, found lost and loitering in the Clement Town area by Cheetah Police on Thursday night, reached the place he belongs to-a state-run residential secondary school on Rajpur Road meant for the orphans and the poor children-on Saturday thanks to the efforts of the police.
The police officials who dealt with the case said that they were baffled as the child failed to identify himself and tell them about the place he resides in. “We first took him to the Clement Town police station after he was found wandering about on the road on Thursday night. We questioned him to get clue about his identity. After some time, he said that his name is Vikki Kumar and he is from village Korba. We contacted the police station in Chakrata, but to no avail. We then took him to different places in the city to help him remember where he resides in. As he named Rajpur Road we took him there on Saturday. He motioned to a school. We reached there and met the head of the school Hukum Singh Uniyal. He, to our relief, instantly recognised him as a mentally challenged inmate of the boarding school who fled a few days ago. We are happy that our efforts have finally borne fruit and the boy has got back to his ‘home’,” said a police official who was a member of the team which dealt with the case.
