Changes in transfer policy for police personnel proposed

PNS

The existing transfer policy for intelligence personnel which was giving some advantages as compared to other wings of the police (civil police, provincial armed constabulary) will be rectified of its inherent flaws. Seeing advantages in the intelligence wing, police department had received around 8, 000 applications from civil police and PAC personnel, asking to be transferred in intelligence department, said State Director General of Police BS Sidhu on Saturday. In view of the mounting number of applications of policemen (civil police) to get transferred to intelligence wing and to rectify the anomalies in transfer policy for the intelligence personnel, he met senior police officers and discussed the pros and cons of the existing transfer policy for intelligence personnel at the Police Headquarters. In the meeting, it was revealed that under the existing transfer policy, police in intelligence department are getting promotion promptly. The other advantages are that they can be transferred to their home districts at will. Above all, there is the lure of   incentives. Pressure is being put on police officers to transfer policemen to the intelligence wing, it is learnt. The police department will soon release the new transfer policy for policemen in the intelligence department. Special advantages they enjoyed in comparison with other police wings like civil police, PAC and others will be rectified and uniformity in all police wings will be made, Sidhu added.
