The teachers teaching primary students should compulsorily have the Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) by March 2019, failing which they would be removed from their jobs.
The Union Government has clearly asked the State Governments to ensure that the all untrained teachers must register themselves for diploma course offered by National Open School. This rule is applicable to all primary teachers of Government, semi-Government, private and Government-aided schools. The teachers who have BTC certificates would be exempted from this compulsion. The teachers that are teaching Classes from I to VIII come under the ambit of the order.
This issue was discussed prominently by the Union HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar during his video conferencing interaction with Education Minister Arvind Pandey and senior officials of the education department on Wednesday.
The Minister said that all teachers teaching primary classes must have the D.El.Ed qualification. Apart from Education Minister, Director General (DG) education Captain Alok Shekhar Tiwari, Director State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) Seema Jaunsari and others were present at the meeting.
The State education department has already dispatched a circular to all the Chief Education Officers (CEOs) of all districts asking them to provide information about untrained teachers.
It is pertinent to mention here that there are thousands of teachers in Uttarakhand who teach the students of primary classes but they don’t possess the necessary qualification. There are also many Bachelor of Education (B Ed) qualified teachers in the State Government teaching primary classes. After the mandate of DElEd qualification by National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), the education department prudently decided to impart a special D.El.Ed training to such teachers.
However, there are thousands of teachers employed in private and aided schools of the State that don’t possess the required qualification and as per the Government order they have no choice but to register themselves in the DElEd course offered by the National Open School before September 15. These teachers must complete their DElEd course before March 15, 2019 failing which their job would be in jeopardy.
