Continuing the ‘loktantra Bachao, Uttarakhand Bachao’ campaign on Sunday, former Chief Minister Harish Rawat lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central Government accusing it of working against the Congress Government in the State. The BJP-led Central  Government continued to create problems for the Congress-led State Governments.

Addressing the gathering at the Ramleela ground in Haldwani on Monday, Rawat strongly criticised the imposition of President’s rule in Uttarakhand. He challenged the BJP to enter the electoral arena after dissolution of the Vidhan Sabha. The former CM alleged, “The BJP is bent upon murdering democracy and even after bringing down the democratically elected government in Uttarakhand, is now conspiring to send me to jail. The BJP-led Central Government is responsible for the present state of political instability in Uttarakhand,” he said, while also stressing on the need to beware of “opportunistic” persons.

Speaking on the occasion, former State Finance and Parliamentary Affairs minister and Haldwani MlA Indira Hridayesh said that the voters of Uttarakhand had chosen the Congress party to run the State Government for a period of five years.

She said, “Afraid of losing power, the Central Government led by prime minister Narendra Modi is working on bringing down the non-BJP State Governments. Imposition of president’s rule when we were in majority is akin to the murder of democracy. The Modi-led Central Government used the power of office and money power to bring about the downfall of the State government under Harish Rawat.”

Addressing the public on the occasion, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Kishore Upadhyay claimed that the BJP had become uncomfortable because the Congress-led State Government was succeeding in the task of executing developmental plans on the ground. Fearing the possibility of the BJP being wiped out in the elections, the BJP got the president’s rule imposed in Uttarakhand  in a hurry, for which the people will give a befitting reply to the party when the time comes, said the PCC chief.
