The standoff between the education department and primary teachers over the issue of filing cases against some teachers of Haridwar district has ended with State Chief Minister Harish Rawat assuring Prathemik Shikshak Sangh (PSS) leaders that the cases would be withdrawn.
The biggest association of the Government teachers were in belligerent mood ever since the Director General (DG) of school education, D Senthil Pandian had directed the officers of the department to file cases against the teachers who were found absconding from their duties and was planning to start an agitation.
On Saturday night after an emergency meeting of the association a delegation of the PSS leaders led by its President Nirmala Mahar met CM at his residence and registered their protest over the issue. Rawat assured the delegation that cases against all 125 teachers would be withdrawn and the suspended BRC and CRC would be reinstated.
Informing about the meeting the General Secretary of PSS, Digvijay Singh said that the teachers are now happy with by the assurance of CM. He said that other issues like benefit of assured career progression and appointments of new BRC and CRC would be discussed with the state education minister Mantri Prasad Naithani on Monday.
The confrontation of the PSS and the education department started when a massive inspection of the Government schools of Haridwar district was undertaken by the department on September 28.
On the basis of the reports of the inspecting teams the DG took an unusual action of removing all the BRC and CRCs of the district.
The decision evoked sharp response from the teachers who went on a mass causal leave on October 03.
However, not to be buoyed down the department again conducted an inspection of the schools and decided to file cases against the teachers who were absent without intimation on the day.
