Campus upbeat, SSP for orderly polls

With students’ union election drawing near, the DAV (PG) College campus was found buzzing with activities on Wednesday.

Moreover, Dehradun SSP Sadanand Date presided over a meeting with college staff and student leaders at the college campus and said that no one will be allowed to take law in their hands to disrupt the peace at the college and in the city at any cost. He appealed students’ leaders and college staff to cooperate with the administration to complete the election peacefully.

Moreover, election campaign being at its peak in the college on Wednesday, members of various students’ groups made rounds of the college campus while raising slogans for their candidates. Some of them were seen busy in helping the students to complete their admission, evidently to woo them for the upcoming union election.

However, rampant violation of lyngdoh Committee Recommendation was also witnessed in the campus. But the election officials are choosing to look the other way.

leaders of various students’ groups on Wednesday invited students to participate in the rallies to show their strength before the process of nomination started in violation of the lyngdoh Committee Recommendations.

AVBP, the BJP’s student affiliate, which won the post of the president last year, is yet to declare its candidate for the same.

An ABVP member, confident to get ticket for the above post, had a rally taken out  in the campus on Wednesday. Notably, another  from the same group, had a rally taken out on    Tuesday as he  seemed to be confident to be favoured with the nomination. It seems that rivalry over the ticket is keeping the leadership of the outfit from announcing the  name of the  candidate.

Moreover, in order to maintain law and order in the campus, administration has deployed heavy consignment of forces. City Patrol Unit personnel were pressed into service to prevent members of students’ groups  from creating ruckus in the city while campaigning  for the students’ union election. Vehicle checking drives were conducted at each side of DAV (PG) College and DBS (PG) College campuses on Tuesday. CPU personnel imposed challans under Motor Vehicle Act on the students who failed to produce the relevant vehicle documents and were found with no helmet on.

SP City Ajay Singh himself visited the college on Tuesday and monitored things from there to ensure that the election campaigning passed off peacefully. He said that around 250 students had been slapped with challans under Motor Vehicle Act after being caught violating traffic rules. Moreover, 22 students’ vehicles were seized on Tuesday, he added. On Wednesday too, things continued as several students were slapped with penalty for traffic violation.

With heavy deployment of police forces in the city outside the college, traffic jams were not witnessed on DAV (PG) College Road, Survey Chowk and other places for two consecutive days to the relief of the commuters.
