Call on stall owners' fee in next MCD meet

PNS

The proposal for reducing the charge of Rs300 taken from each stall owner in the Sunday market to Rs200 was kept for the next meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun board. This has been done in order to meet a procedural technicality. Various other civic issues were discussed in the board meeting which was also marked by ruckus raised by councilors of both the BJP and the Congress on various issues.

Initially, when a Congress councilor was rebuked by the Dehradun Mayor Vinod Chamoli for speaking without permission, the other Congress councilors protested disrupting the meet. Eventually, when the meeting resumed it was decided that the proposal to decrease the recently increased fee for stall owners in the Sunday market from Rs300 to Rs200 would be taken up in the next board meeting to allow passing of the minimum duration needed to change a decision of the board. However, the board unanimously passed the proposal for conducting a survey for ascertaining new places where stalls are being set up for Sunday market and collecting a charge from these stall owners. Councilors also stressed on the need for ascertaining how many of the stall owners in the Sunday market and locals and how many from outside town. The house was informed by municipal officials that though earlier the stalls set up in the Sunday market used to be erected on the roadsides from lansdowne Chowk to the Convent of Jesus and Mary school, now the stall owners have expanded their presence and encroached on the footpath and road upto the Buddha Chowk on Subhash Road. These new stalls need to be removed. Members also acknowledged the need for a proper policy for regulating the Sunday market.  Various other civic issues including sanitation were also discussed during the board meeting.
