Bus federation withdraws call for strike in city

PNS

After meeting with the State Transport Minister Navprabhat on Sunday, the federation of city buses of Dehradun called off its proposed strike. The federation had given a call to cease the movement of city buses in the State Capital on Monday.

A delegation of federation met Navprabhat at his residence in Vikasnagar on Sunday and demanded that the government should take action on illegal operation of Vikrams and other contract carriage vehicles in Dehradun as per the order of Uttarakhand HC.

The delegation told the minister that the contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams are illegally operating in the city despite of the fact that the HC in an order dated May 27, 2014 had clearly stated that the contract carriage vehicles like Vikrams should be stopped from picking retail costumers on selected routes.  The delegation told the minister that the orders of HC should be respected and if the officers are not able to enforce the court’s order then they should be replaced with competent ones.

The President of the federation, Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal said that the minister ordered the additional commissioner Transport to ensure that the orders of HC are followed.

Dandariyal said that the federation has called off the strike but the hunger strike of the city bus operators at agitation site near parade ground would continue.  The federation is demanding that the Vikrams should not be allowed to operate on 500 meter radius of Clock Tower and these vehicles should ply from Connaught place to Premnagar on Chakrata road.

Meanwhile the condition of one of a city bus operator Suresh Kumar who was sitting on a hunger strike, deteriorated on Sunday night following which he was rushed to Doon hospital.
