The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is getting support of all sections of society in Uttarakhand and the results of the forthcoming general elections would reflect this trend. The BSP State president of Uttar Pradesh and party in-charge of Uttarakhand Ram Achal Rajbhar claimed this while talking to The Pioneer on Sunday.
Rajbhar who is one of the top party leaders and a close lieutenant of BSP supremo Mayawati said that people of Uttarakhand are fed up with both BJP and Congress parties and they have made up their minds to teach both these parties a lesson this time.
He said that top leaders of both Congress and BJP in State are only concerned about becoming Chief Minister and the fact that Uttarakhand has seen as many as seven CM’s in a span of 13 years shows this urge among the leaders of these parties.
The BSP leader said that crime and corruption has increased in the State under the regimes of Congress and BJP. He said that the State is reeling under the effect of large scale migration of its people from the mountainous areas and the successive State Governments have done nothing to stop this. Talking about the poll prospects of BSP in Uttarakhand Rajbhar said that the party is increasing its vote share with every election and the results of general elections would surprise the political pundits of the State. He said that the party is in strong footing in Haridwar, Nainital and Tehri lok Sabha constituencies.
When asked about the revolt of Social Welfare Minister Surendra Rakesh and leader of BSP’s legislators in State assembly Haridas and the effect they will have on the poll prospects of party candidate in Haridwar, Rajbhar said that the supporters of BSP only vote for the party symbol and its leader Mayawati. He said that the history of BSP shows that the party defectors got nothing and met their political deaths. The BSP has given tickets to Hazi Mohammad Islam from Haridwar and an ex Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer laique Ahmed from Nainital lok Sabha seat. The party has nominated Sheesh Pal Singh from Tehri, D S Bisht from Garhwal and B R Dhoni from Almora-Pithoragarh lok Sabha constituency. In terms of vote share BSP is the third largest party in the state; it got 6.77 per cent votes in 2004 general elections and increased its share to 15.29 per cent votes in 2009 but still failed to open its account.
