The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) staged a stir on Tuesday in protest against the alleged attack by the goons, hired by the mining mafias, on a trainee IFS official in Ramnagar last week, accusing the State Government of protecting such mafias. Demanding strong action against those involved in the illegal mining activities in the State, BJYM activists burnt the State Government in its effigy.
Bailparao police, Ramnagar, however, arrested two of the suspects in connection with the alleged attack on the aforesaid trainee IFS Kalyani on Wednesday night in Ramnagar when she had gone to stop illegal mining activities.
Cases of illegal mining thriving in the state and attacks on the enforcement agencies for challenging them occurring frequently are quite worrisome, said Vikas Bhagat, president, BJYM’s Haldwani unit.
Tearing further into the State Government, he said such attacks had happened in the past too. “These cases occurring at regular intervals make it clear that the mafias are ruling the roost with the State Government fawning on them,” he added.
The arrested have been identified as Santa Singh and Sarjeet Singh. More so, State Congress has asked explanation from district panchayat member Kulvinder Singh on his alleged involvement in the attack.
