BJP protests cops' failure to make any headway

Against the backdrop of Dehradun police failing to make headway regarding the murder-cum-armed burglary case reported from Balawala resulting in collective anger mounting against the law enforcers, BJP members met Uttarakhand Home Minister Pritam Singh and expressed anguish over spiralling crime graph and poor policing in the State capital on Friday.

Moreover, the protesters demanded removal of Dehradun DM and SSP over their alleged failure to rise to the challenge. The common people are feeling insecure with police failing to instill confidence in the law-enforcing machinery, the BJP activists said.

However, Uttarakhand Home Minister Pritam Singh said that recently Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat had set a deadline to the police to crack the armed burglary case in Balawala. Police are working on several angles to solve the case, he added. Singh expressed hope that breakthrough would soon be possible.

Dozens of BJP workers gheroaed the Uttarakhand Home Minister at his residential office and shouted slogans against the State Government for the mounting incidence of crimes like murder, burglary, loot and dacoity in the State capital over the past few months.

The BJP members slammed the State Government for failing to take measures to improve law and order in the State capital, in particular, and other districts, in general.

According to the protesters,  Dehradun Police are still clueless about the identity of the offenders in the armed-burglary case that resulted in the murder of a 23-year-old person and injury to four persons of the same family in Balawala area, which took place 10 days ago. Police have sought more time from the State Government as part of a clever strategy. Raipur police in-charge and police post in- charge have been made the sacrificial lambs by way of the police re-jig. These are mere cosmetic changes meant to underplay their failure to take the challenge head-on.

Earlier, local residents had blocked highway at Harrawala protesting against the police’s failure to crack the case and the rising crime graphs in the State capital. Apparently spurred by it, Uttarakhand Chief Minster Harish Rawat fixed a deadline to the State DGP to solve the case and arrest the culprits involved.
