The members of the Haldwani BJP unit staged a protest against the proposed hike in water and power tariffs by the State Government on Wednesday and handed over a memorandum to the City Magistrate of Haldwani on the matter.
leading the protest, Haldwnai city BJP president Chandan Bisht alleged that proposed hike in water and power tariffs would considerably add to burden of the common people of the state. On one hand, the State Government has failed to ensure regular drinking water supply and, on the other, it has proposed 15 to 20 percent increase in the water tariff, he said.
Similarly, it is believed that the State Government had proposed about 26 percent hike in power tariff. But the BJP will would not sit idle if the State Government thus foists such hike on the common people, he asserted. The agitators served a memorandum to City Magistrate Haldwani, R D Paliwal, demanding redressal of the public grievances. Among the BJP members who participated in the stir included Hukum Singh Kunwar, Vindesh Gupta, Renu Adhikari and Anil Dabbu.
