BJP leader slams police for failing to arrest Roorkee blast accused

PNS

Senior BJP leader and leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Ajay Bhatt slammed police for failing to apprehend the bomb blast accused involving December 6 Roorkee blast case. Notably, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was holding a meeting to mark the anniversary of Babri mosque demolition at a stone throw distance from the place where the blast occurred. In the bomb blast, a 12- year- old Tushar Dhiman died.

Involvement of terrorists in the bomb blast cannot be ruled out either, he added. Bhatt accused the Congress- led State Government of failing to check crimes. He said that the police remaining hamstrung had led to the blast in Roorkee.

Notably, the bomb blast took place around some 500 metres away from DAV College where VHP was observing 'Shaurya Diwas' to commemorate the Babri Masjid demolition that had happened in 1992.

Police had not made elaborate security arrangements, alleged the BJP’s senior leader. The BJP MlA from Uttar Pradesh, Sangeet Som who has been given Z- Category security by the Centre, was present at the VHP programme.

Police should have deployed extra forces at the venue where a person having Z category security status was present. Police seem to be done nothing to ensure security at the VHP programme.

He wondered why police have failed to capture those involved despite over 90 hours having passed since the blast occurred.  Taking potshots at the State Government, he said it had miserably failed to ensure security for the people.

The people are mortally scared lest they be the next victim, he said. He reiterated his party’s demand for a high-level probe. Those responsible for the boy’s death must be brought to book, he said.
