The Bharatiya Janata Party continuing to fire salvo against the Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the generalissimo of the Congress brigade of the poll-bound Uttarakhand,   the party leader from Munsiyari in Pithoragarh district Jagat Martolia raked up the December 3, 2016 incident wherein some BJP leaders and workers were beaten up allegedly by Congress-backed goons and alleged that the brutal attack was perpetrated on them at the behest of the Chief Minister. Claiming threat to his life, he also submitted a memorandum to the chief electoral officer of the state, seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation into the attack.

Notably, the incident happened when the CM was on Munsiyari visit on December 3, 2016. Some BJP workers led by Martolia assembled at the town to serve a memorandum to him, demanding probe into the scams the state government was embroiled in. They were allegedly beaten up by some Congress-backed goons. Martoila along with other BJP members were injured seriously and were sent to Delhi for treatment. “A case was registered against some Congress leaders on December 4, but no action was taken against those involved. A memorandum seeking CBI inquiry into the same addressing the Centre was submitted to Pithoragarh DM on December 22.  On January 4, another memorandum seeking CBI inquiry addressing Uttarakhand Governor was submitted to Pithoragarh DM,” he said.

Martolia said that the state electoral officer should send a proposal to the Centre, seeking CBI inquiry into the alleged attack within a week. Apart from this, the commission should direct the home department of the state to provide him with security by central forces in view of the perceived threat to his life. He warned that he would sit on demonstration outside the CM’s office in Dehradun on January 24 if his demands are not met in a week.
