'BJP again trying to bring down Cong Govt'

PNS

The Congress has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to once again bring down the elected Congress-led Government of Uttarakhand. The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay further alleged that the BJP was trying to orchestrate its conspiracy to create an atmosphere of disorder and fear in Uttarakhand.

Addressing media persons at the Congress Bhawan here on Sunday, the PCC chief referred to the statements being made by BJP leaders as stated in media reports. He pointed out that as per the statements made by BJP leaders and reported in the media, the BJP claims that other Congress MlAs had remained in touch with the BJP apart from the nine turncoat Congress MlAs whose disqualification from the Assembly is presently pending in the court. Also referring to statements by BJP leaders opining that the Congress-led State Government will not last long, Upadhyay said that this substantiates the Congress allegations of horse trading and conspiracy by the BJP to bring down a democratically elected Congress-led State Government. The PCC chief said that he was  not in favour of mid-term election for the Vidhan Sabha, stressing that the election should be held at the designated time as a democratically elected government should be able to complete its five-year term. Regarding the various decisions undertaken by the State Government during the imposition of president’s rule in Uttarakhand, Upadhyay questioned whether the State Government or Central Government could make policy decisions during the period of president’s rule imposition when the elected  State Government .

Replying to a query related to investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation, he expressed uncertainty regarding the CBI probe which could be influenced and partial.

He stressed that the Congress does not trust the CBI to conduct a free and fair investigation under the influence and pressure from the Centre. Along with this, the PCC chief favoured the demand that all alleged cases of corruption reported in Uttarakhand since 2000 till now should be investigated in a time bound manner under an inquiry committee comprising two sitting High Court judges to ensure impartial investigation, added Upadhyay.
